Example: Guiding Client Decisions in Hair Coloring

Imagine a client new to coloring their hair comes in seeking advice on covering their gray. You present them with two main options:

  1. Option 1: Level 5 KP with 20 Vol: This choice provides full gray coverage and results in a warmer shade.

    • Educate: "Using a Level 5 KP with 20 Volume developer will give you complete gray coverage and a darker, warmer color. However, this option may require more frequent maintenance, approximately every 4-6 weeks, as KP will show regrowth more quickly."

  2. Option 2: Level 6 CT with 13 Vol: This option will blend the gray and give a cooler tone, with less complete coverage.

    • Educate: "Choosing a Level 6 CT with 13 Volume developer will blend your gray rather than cover it completely, giving you a cooler and more natural look. This approach typically requires less frequent maintenance, around every 6-8 weeks, as the coverage is softer so regrowth is less noticeable."

Guide the Decision: After explaining these options, ask your client which aspects are more important to them. "Do you prefer full coverage with a warmer tone and are okay with more frequent visits, or a cooler, blended look with less frequent maintenance?"

Let Them Decide: Involve your client to a degree in the decision making process. Allow them to choose based on their preferences and lifestyle. Once they’ve made their decision, proceed with the chosen method, knowing it aligns with their needs and expectations.

By providing clear information on both the results and the maintenance required for each option, you help your client make an informed choice that fits their lifestyle and hair goals. This approach ensures that they are satisfied with both the appearance and the upkeep of their color.
